WorkPacks is intended to scale with user depth and digital maturity. Easy to begin use, a client can begin construction planning and work packaging according to embedded Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) principles with merely a 2D plot plan. At higher levels of digital maturity, a client/user can embed a 3D model and tie documents, materials, labor norms into the model tag set, creating a Virtual Construction Model. For mature client organizations, often with custom-built enterprise-level digital tools, there is frequently a request to integrate WorkPacks into the client organization's tech stack, creating a digital construction hub. WorkPacks' onboard data integration tool, Workpacks Delta, can be used to build integrations without needing a dedicated IT initiative. At the highest level of sophistication, clients may request custom functionality as a dedicated client module, delivering client-defined business processes and functionality. Such custom modules are built to run on top of the WorkPacks platform. WorkPacks has a proven record of meeting the challenge of custom development to deliver such modules when requested by the client.

Where does my data sit within WorkPacks?

WorkPacks is a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) application running, as a standard, in a multi-tenant secured server based on Microsoft Azure. Client data and operating environments are separated by logical data barriers within the application and the server system. The client assigns users within their environment only. Upon request, WorkPacks can be delivered in a client-dedicated single-tenant server environment. In such single tenants, WorkPacks development staff are assigned as a server administrator to enable back-end management of the software on behalf of the client. In a single tenancy, no other client organizations are located within the same server.

Is WorkPacks a Digital Twin?

WorkPacks can help produce and analyze a Digital Twin, as the project model transitions from a Virtual Construction Model (see VCM above) to the digital representation of the built assets. The power of a Digital Twin lies in the data associated with actual built assets, including: a record of the asset's state in its lifecycle, optimal operating ranges and limits, maintenance schedule, status of the asset in the current operating lifecycle, and other key data for a digitized representation of the real asset. WorkPacks Delta provides the digital neural network to track any and all associated data required for a Digital Twin.

The use of WorkPacks and its benefits can grow with the resources you put into the software. Neither a large team nor specialized training is needed to reap immediate benefit in project planning. WorkPacks’ POC automation and tools for setting up project AWP Master Index (work scope breakdown) can be accomplished with a lean team of a single user supported by a constructability planning team. A few users can establish WorkPacks integration to the project technical stack; for this endeavor, the client will benefit from having a dedicated data manager to create the information hub around WorkPacks. For Owner Oversight on a large Giga Project, the data management team may be larger to help with aggregation and checking of data streams from outside sources into the WorkPacks platform; compared to the traditional techniques of manual handling of flat data files, a small team of data managers with the WorkPacks AWP tools will be able to keep up with massive data exchanges occurring on a periodic basis. For Workface planning and building installation packages, a team of few to many may be needed based on the project’s Total Installed Cost (TIC), the number of disciplines and project complexity. On a giga project, a team of ten to hundreds of WorkFace Planners are possible. With proper data integration, WorkPacks will reduce the time per package from tens of hours to a few hours per package.
